Principles

What makes code written by an agent trustworthy, and the work fast. Each principle names the decision behind it.

#PrincipleIn practiceSource
Checks, not instructions, give controlevery rule that matters becomes a test, a lint rule, a hook or a CI job; a written rule alone is forgottenADR-0021, REF-BOCKELER-SDD
Every claim has a source that was readreferences recorded with their date before the code; no source → a derivation from read sources, or a research requestADR-0011, ADR-0020
Evidence over assertion"done" means the full check ran green and its output was seenREF-CC-BEST-PRACTICES
The one who did the work does not grade itindependent reviewers in a fresh context — auditor, verifier, math expert; tests that read files are mutation-checkedADR-0020, ADR-0021
Small, named, pure functionsone export per file, one kind, one source; a pure core, effects in a thin shellADR-0011, ADR-0014, ADR-0019
Business rules belong to the Product Ownerthe agent asks instead of inventing; every answer goes to the domain docs in the same changeAGENTS.md
Inspect at the end of every deliverya demo after each feature, a review and a retrospective after each epic, every rule questioned every four to five epicsADR-0023, docs/process/agile.md
Zero runtime dependencyevery dev dependency justified, read before upgrade, at least 7 days old, audit blockingADR-0009, ADR-0038
Decisions are written onceADRs superseded, never rewritten; docs say "why" once and link to itdocs/conventions/writing.md
The repository is the memorybacklog, decisions, sources and lessons in versioned Markdown that the agent reloads at each sessionADR-0021, REF-ANTHROPIC-CONTEXT
Measure, then speed upevery command timed, every story's time and tokens known; the slowest and the most frequent become toolsdocs/tooling/metrics.md
Read once, keep itpages read online kept in a local library, searched before going online: fewer requests, fewer tokensADR-0039
Never wait for a serverchecks run locally before a push; one CI, before a releaseADR-0038
Write decisions, not wordsthe Product Owner's choices recorded in neutral, complete sentences, never quoteddocs/conventions/writing.md
