getContrastingTextColor function
Picks the text color, pure black or pure white, that reads best on a background. Uses the APCA contrast of WCAG 3, closer to perception than the WCAG 2 ratio: white wins on a saturated red, for instance.
ts
import { getContrastingTextColor } from 'utils';Signature
ts
export function getContrastingTextColor(background: Rgb): '#000000' | '#ffffff'Parameters
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
background | The background color, such as the result of getSvgFillColor. |
Returns
'#000000' or '#ffffff'.
Example
ts
getContrastingTextColor({ r: 255, g: 255, b: 0 }); // '#000000'
getContrastingTextColor({ r: 255, g: 0, b: 0 }); // '#ffffff'
label.setAttribute('fill', getContrastingTextColor(getSvgFillColor(tank)));Tests
Line coverage: 100 %.
- ✅ writes on {"r":255,"g":255,"b":255} in #000000
- ✅ writes on {"r":255,"g":255,"b":0} in #000000
- ✅ writes on {"r":180,"g":180,"b":180} in #000000
- ✅ writes on {"r":0,"g":0,"b":0} in #ffffff
- ✅ writes on {"r":255,"g":0,"b":0} in #ffffff
- ✅ writes on {"r":0,"g":0,"b":255} in #ffffff
- ✅ writes on {"r":128,"g":128,"b":128} in #ffffff
